Everybody loves doing great in Google, and often you are in search of that magical green dust called Page Rank. In this post we will list some of the best plugins to preserve and sustain page rank and link juice inside a Wordpress blog.
What is PageRank?
Well PR is a link analysis algorithm, named after Larry Page a co-founder from Google, that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents (called links).
In the last WordCamp in 2009, Matt Cutts talked about the importance of page rank inside a Wordpress blog. An interesting fact that he pointed out was that Wordpress coverers 70-80% of SEO mechanics.
Also, he made a very nice sketch of how page rank works inside a page. Here is the video of Matt speaking at WordCamp 2009.
The bottom line is this, you need to preserve the page rank within your blog main posts and not let it wander off inside useless areas of the blog that you don’t want indexed like the archive section, the category section, tag links, login pages and so on.
Here are some nifty plugins that will help you preserve the link juice for your main blog areas that need indexing.
Let me see the plugins
WP-NofollowPost
A great and simple plugin that will make all links inside your post pages no-follow. The no-follow link relation is the thing that tells the bot from google not to follow that link. This allows your visitors to visit the links but the search engines will ignore them. This is the best for page rank preservation.
Robots Meta
Yet another simple plugin that adds a line inside a file called robots.txt that tells Google not to index useless blog areas like: the comment RSS feeds, the site’s search result pages, all admin pages, author archives and many more.
Nofollow Reciprocity
The plugin scans the links that the blog receives and if it detects a no-follow link relation from one of them it will automatically relate that link on your Wordpress blog as no-follow. This works best with blogroll links and post links if your not using WP-NofollowPost.
Nofollow filter
A small and effective plugin that adds a no-follow link relation to a link that you will choose inside your wordpress blog.
WordPress No Pagerank
Simply adds rel=”nofollow” to comment links, rendering them useless for spammers
These are the best of the best for the different areas of your Wordpress blog to preserve actual link juice and page rank. If you are concerned about having a SEO ready blog these plugins are the best choice.

I tried NoFollow plugin, and the job was as expected, awesome. It was placing nofollow on all the links in the posts and the problem came in a way that even Text-link-ads too became nofollow.
I hope there is some plugin out there which can be adjusted in such a way that some links can be put in dofollow and some in nofollow. If you are aware of any such kind of a plugin, pls do lemme know.
Brillliant post. These are so handy. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the useful repertoire of WP plugins for sculpting PR.
I have a short comment on the issue of nofollow tag. I’ve read that SE bots don’t follow the link. In fact, SE bots DO follow the link to see where it points but that landing page doesn’t receive any link juice or authority/PR. It’s like the admin says: Hey, I don’t know that site as being a trusted source of information so I don’t recommend it.
Related to PageRank, here’s a post of mine concerning the dynamics of PR within a site. Hope you’ll find it useful: http://trafficcpanel.com/848/pagerank-insites-that-seo-marketers-must-know-and-apply/
One of the big SEO problems with a Wordpress blog is Duplicate Content.
So many pages are Identical… archives, categories, dates, all showing identical content.
I’m used to avoiding the problem on a static site but it’s a much bigger problem on a dynamic Wordpress site.
Fortunately the All in one SEO plugin allows you to get rid of it by adding noindex to lots of pages and adding canonical to the page that you want indexed.
those are some usefull wp plugins I never saw before, thanks
Gracias por todo master……….
