20 Social Media Sites For Web Designers / Developers
Digg and Reddit are growing so fast that they are losing their community feel. If you are a social media enthusiast, and you love web design, you might be looking for new places you can go that are more focused on the web design niche. If you run a web design blog, becoming an active member of communities focused solely on web design might be a good way to improve your readership. Whatever your motivation is, I put together this list of 20 social media sites focused solely on web design. Some of these sites receive impressive amounts of traffic, others are just starting to grow in popularity. In either case, the traffic you receive from these sites will be higher quality than either Digg or Reddit. Enjoy.
1) PixelGroovy
Pixel Groovy is a user controlled tutorial directory. They provide the members with the control, not editors, to decide which tutorials are worthy of being published and which tutorials aren’t. Another one of the sites on this list with heavier traffic.
2) Tweako
Tweako provides guides and tutorials for computing, technology, and the Internet. I find this site particularly useful and full of helpful information. One good thing about tweako is that it receives more traffic than some of the other sites on this list.
3) Design-Newz
A new entry to Social Media Design-Newz is a very useful site that features articles, resources and tutorials written by designers and developers.
Another useful social media site I love to put in the list is Script & Style that aims to make web designers and developers better by promoting important web design/development articles.
5) DotnetKicks
DotNetKicks is a community based news site edited by our members. It specialises in .NET development techniques, technologies and tools including ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET, C++, Visual Studio, SubSonic, Open Source, SQL Server, Silverlight & Mono. Users vote on articles with “kicks”. If an article gets enough kicks, it makes it to the front page.
6) DesignFloat
Design Float is a social media website focused entirely on web design. A feature I like is that it features a top users category. Design Float is not as popular as a lot of the other social media sites, so becoming a top user is very easy. It might be a good idea to gain some influence on Design Float as it continues to grow. Design Float might not send as much traffic as bigger sites like Digg, but the traffic it does send is more valuable because all the users on the site are interested in web design.
7) DnHour
Dnhour is similar to the other sites on this list, but with a focus on domain names, domain buying strategy and more.
Dzone provides fresh links for web developers. They use a voting similar with an upvote and downvote similar to Reddit. I love the design of this site and find it easy to use and full of interesting links.
9) HackerNews
Hacker News focuses entirely on web design. With its incredibly simplistic design, Hacker News gets right down to the business of selecting the most interesting web design articles out there.
10) Plugim
Plugim is a user driven internet marketing community. It Although not completely dedicated to web design, Plugim is focused on internet marketing and features interesting subjects such as SEO.
11) SlashDot
Slashdot focuses on technology, but often crosses into the design realm.
12) WPScoop
WP-Scoop (WordPress Scoop) is website dedicated to bringing you WordPress related News, Reviews and Stories. All the latest and greatest information on the WordPress blogging platform can be found on the pages of WPscoop.
13) DesignBump
A social media site dedicated to the design community. DesignBump’s homepage is made up from the most popular user submitted links as decided by the site’s community.
14) Good-Tutorials
Good-Tutorials is one of the largest source of web tutorials on the web today and has been featured on the BBC, SkyNews, TechTV (now G4), in the British magazine iCreate, PC World, and has been linked to by thousands of sites, blogs and forums.
15) Pixel2Life
Pixel2life is also one of the largest source of tutorial index catering to graphic designers, webmasters and programmers.
Another good social media site focusing Design Industry. Registered users can submit and vote links related to design industry.
17) CSSGlobe
A place where members post web design and web standards related news. Membership is not open for everyone, you have to apply for that.
18) Noupe
Noupe.com is a web design blog, not a social media site. However, it features a design news column where users submit web design links. I usually find these stories interesting, so I decided to include Noupe in the list.
19) CSSLeak
CssLeak is a gallery that feature the best design website around the world. Also having section providing real good Design Industry News.
20) CSSDrive
CssDrive is also a good site providing one of the best css designs gallery and having Design News section.
Hope the list of 20 social media sites for web developers / designers will be useful for you guys.. Have a missed something, please mention in comments.

Great post! I do have one request, please start linking your thumbnails to the actual post/page that it is describing, instead of just a larger image. Every other blog I’ve ran into does it this way, so whenever I come here I open up about 10 tabs by clicking on your image links before I realize they’re not going to the site! haha, maybe it’s just me?
