Create Your Own Style and Flair with Custom Fonts

2 Comments 03 August 2008

Are you tired of those same boring fonts for your web applications and print projects?  Do you know most fonts are licensed and can’t be added to web applications?  Well, you can solve that problem by creating your own fonts with FontStruct, a slick flash application that allows you to create nice fonts right from your browser and save them to your computer or server.

While creating true type fonts used to take expensive and daunting software, FontStruct gives everyone the opportunity to create and share their fonts free of charge.  The system is very easy to use and quite intuitive.  While it does take awhile to create an entire alphabet, it’s very worth the effort.

The community aspect of FontStruct allows you to view others fonts, comment on them, and get ideas for your own font.  You can allow your fonts to be viewed by the entire community or just allow yourself or your friends to view and download your font.

All in all, this is a great tool that everyone should check out if they have an afternoon to burn.  If nothing else, check out what other people are doing and see if these fonts would work with what you’re trying to do.

There are ways to use custom fonts with web applications, but they can only be used with Internet Explorer.  If you’re interested in learning more, checkout the WEFT website to find out how you can embed fonts in your websites.
